Force Aim: "By working in partnership to: bring about safer communities; reduce disorder, crime and the fear of crime; and contribute to the delivery of justice in a way which secures and maintains public confidence."

Devon and Cornwall Constabulary is proud to work alongside other agencies to help make the region's coasts as safe and crime-free as possible.

Any incidents taking place at sea or along the coast require a swift and efficient response from all the agencies involved. One of the police's best resources for marine incidents is the BK117 helicopter, which is a regular sight along the coastline either helping with operations or assisting in a search for a missing person.

And keeping a vigilant eye on the coast is an important consideration for a police force surrounded by water.

Marine crime features strongly in a great deal of police operations, with high profile multi-agency campaigns such as Coastwatch, Boat Watch and Operation Jetsam. There is also a full-time diving team based in Plymstock whose work includes targeting marine criminals as well as other relevant tasks such as search and rescue and patrolling at local regattas.

Devon and Cornwall Constabulary covers the largest geographical police area in England, extending 180 miles from the Dorset and Somerset borders in the east to the Isles of Scilly in the West.

Policing an area of this size offers many challenges, with the needs of both rural and urban communities continually at the forefront of the Force's approach to tackling crime.

The Force aim and policing style have been revised to meet the challenges of today's society and at the heart of this change is the belief that the police service, together with other relevant partners, should aim to solve underlying problems within the community.
